Where I write about myself in the third person

Jake Thornton was born in London, and trained as an actor at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Upon graduating, he worked as an actor with credits at the Royal Shakespeare Company and in London’s West End. He performed in The Black Rider, directed by acclaimed visionary, Robert Wilson, and with music written by Tom Waits which toured to A.C.T. in San Francisco, and Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.

He moved to LA in 2007, and in 2008 met Ben Lustig. The two discovered they had a shared a passion for genre movies and began writing together. 

 

In 2014 they sold their first script, Winter’s Knight, a reimagining of the Santa Claus legend told as a Viking action-adventure, for seven figures in a four-studio bidding war. 

 

Since then, they have become well known for creating original and subversive stories based on well-known characters and tropes, from H.G. Wells, to the stories of the Arabian Nights, as well as adapting novels, comics and video games.

 

They have sold projects to Columbia, SyFy, UCP, Amazon, Warner Brothers TV, and The CW. In 2019 they wrote and developed an adaptation of the video game franchise, Final Fantasy, for Sony TV.

 

In 2020, they sold their original screenplay, The Princess, to Twentieth Century Studios, with Joey King (The Kissing Booth) with Original Film (The Fast and the Furious)  and Derek Kolstad (John Wick/Nobody) attached to produce. The film was released domestically on Hulu and internationally on Disney+ on July 1st.

He is currently working on his first novel, Milly Tipton and the Spirits of Christmas.

He lives in Camas, WA, with his wife and two kids.
